Music In Our Home

You know the times when you hear a new song and it takes you to another place entirely?
A place where your heart brims full. Your courage builds strong.
You feel His beautiful Presence.

Music is like that for us. It's like that for many. Music in our home is like oxygen; absolutely essential. My daughters sing their way through their days with smiles on their faces; my eldest sons fingers are finding their way across the ivories with sweet results, and our youngest loves tapping out rhythms on almost anything.

We enjoy a fairly broad range of Christian music in our home. Anything from Randy Travis, Sons of Korah, Hillsong, Gaither, Jason Gray, Bethel, Strahan Coleman, Jars of Clay, Mercy Me, Leeland, Kari Jobe, Keith Green ... the list goes on.

“Inspiring music may fill the soul with

heavenly thoughts, move one to righteous

action, or speak peace to the soul.”

Being a words person and loving to write, there is something incredibly beautiful about perfectly written lyrics; when they speak overwhelming truth and hope into your heart. Goosebumps are always good.

“Music can set an atmosphere of worship

which invites [the] spirit of revelation, of

testimony.”

I've been very intentional when it comes to having music in our home. It has always been a desire for my husband and children (and myself) to be in a home where our souls can be uplifted and encouraged through the gifts of these artists.

Most of all? I love how music in our home leads to worship. Leads to hearts being lead to the heart of Jesus. Truth being claimed and believed. Mouths testifying to the splendour of our God.

“I will praise the name of God with a song,

and will magnify him with thanksgiving.”

-- Psalm 69:30

I just know these songs below are going to be all these things for you.

Allow yourself to stop, to breathe, to listen to these lyrics and fall in love with the Maker of your Soul all over again ...

I hope these songs have blessed your heart.

  2. Elisha, my personality finds me enjoying listening to talking more than music: like podcasts or talk-back radio over music in the background… yet I know that music can calm the atmosphere of our home and refocus it on Christ so much better.
Thank you for the encouragement to give godly music more of an appearance in our home.

    1. Hello Adelaide! It's so nice to meet you! I enjoy sermons on CD, but I probably don't listen to them as much as I would like to, so thank you for reminding me about positive Christian 'talking' in the home! You're so welcome here and I hope you enjoy the rest of your week :)

    2. Thank you Elisha, There is a place for both right?!
I realised after I commented that you are from Australia… us too!
I get a little excited when I find Aussies here with the same visions as our family.
We are in Victoria though… just a 'short' car drive away:)
      Blessings to your day!!

    3. There is definitely a place for both! I know what you mean about finding Aussies, it's just so good to find someone 'local'! There haven't been many Aussie bloggers that I've come across either. Victoria's just a hop, skip and a jump away from Queensland! Maybe one day?!! Blessings to you and your too!

  3. Music seems to always calm everyone down in our home too. With so many of us...it's a great tool.
