The concept of using a bullet journal is new to me. I know that it's probably been something that's been used for years now, but, as usual, I am late to jump on the band waggon. I actually stumbled across this method by accident when looking up vintage things on pinterest the other day. It's basically a notebook that you customise to suit your needs and include lists, quotes, to-do-lists, event planning and all sorts of other fun and essential things that is part of your life. If you would like to see some examples of bullet journals, then click here!
Seeing as I made this accidental discovery only two days before the new year, I thought why not give it a go and see if it works? So I dug out a perfect sized, tightly bound notebook given to me as a gift a few years ago, and I knew it would be perfect.
I scratched out a rough draft of topics that I wanted to include and set to work putting it all together. I'm really happy with how it turned out, and I'm finding it really easy and straight forward to use already. I'm not sure if I've done mine as an 'authentic' bullet journal, but that doesn't matter as it works for me. I think that's one thing that I like about it the most; its versatility. You really can include any thing you like in it!
The topics I've included are ...
- books read
- books to read
- movies/board games to buy
- school holiday activities
- birthday gifts
- waiting for ...
- books lent out
- birthday party planning
- op-shop bargains (I couldn't leave this one out!)
- blog post ideas
- story ideas
- quotes I love
- bible verses
- personal goals
- Christmas planning
- family books read
- monthly memories
As it's just the first day of 2016, I still have a lot to fill out! But, I'm really looking forward to having everything I need all in the one place for the whole year. It fits in my handbag too, which is so helpful when going out. I've tried a calendar on my iPhone, and I just can't help myself! I MUST write things in a notebook! I think it may be an illness.
I really like how I can write out what I need to get done for each day in its months section too, using the key to check things off as I go (See second image left side page for key).
Washi tape has to be included ... along with freehand drawings and designs.
For the pictures of my family on their birthdays, I printed out (just on normal computer paper) these cute little photographs. They're personal, cute and beautiful!
I created little tabs along the side of the pages just by folding washi tape over the edges, making a durable and cute little plastic tape tag to easily and quickly find the sections (these are also colour coded in the second picture).
It still has a long way to go, but obviously, that's the idea. Using it throughout the whole year to keep things organised. I'm excited by the life God has blessed us with and I really want to live it to the full! I'm so thankful to Him for His many many graces and mercies to us, these I will record on the pages as I go (I am also beginning a new gratitude journal for the year).
I think once this journal is stuffed to the brim with bits and pieces of our lives, I'll tuck it away safely in our family memories box to savour over the coming years.
Happy New Year to you all and I really look forward to getting to know you all so much more this year! I hope your year is blessed and over-flowing with precious moments that you take the time to enjoy and that your relationship with the Lord deepens.
Oh ...
... one more thing ...
... my amazing husband may have let me buy this little cutie three days before Christmas.
Meet 'Aslan' our ten week old pure rag doll kitten ...
Isn't he just scrumptious! I am completely smitten!
What a thing of beauty! I'm also very attached to a paper and pencil planner, but I must say that mine is not the work of art that yours is!
ReplyDeleteBlessings and Happy New Year!
Thank you for your kindness Michele, it's lovely to have you visit again. Blessings to you too xo
DeleteI have been intrigued by the bullet journal. I like your customizations with the washi tape and drawings!
ReplyDeleteI found it intriguing when I first started looking at ideas for them too. Thanks so much for popping by Emily!
DeleteI absolutely LOVE your bullet journal and your drawing is so nice! I'm a paper planner with a Mambi but those bujo's sure are appealing to me. :) Have you seen the #listersgottalist on Instagram? There's also a facebook page for tons of ideas.
ReplyDeleteHave a Blessed New Year!
Lil at Embracing the Lovely
Lil, I have absolutely NO idea what you mean by Mambi and bujo's!! LOL!! I'll definitely check out the Instagram account and the FB page too, thanks for letting me know about them and for saying hi! Blessings to you for the new year!
DeleteHello, Elisha. I just love your new little kitten! How adorable he is. And, yes, I think I have the same illness. I must Write.Things.Down.
ReplyDeleteI hope your journal works out for you this year. I need to get a new one this year, too.
Have a great beginning of the year. Love to you.
Every day I snuggle my little bundle and I feel so happy! I think the illness is more than likely completely and totally incurable. Complete. Obsession. Have you got your new journal now? I hope it works well for you too. Have a lovely week Gleniece. Blessings, Elisha.
DeleteLooks amazing! I just started to write my new gratefulness journal.
ReplyDeleteThank you! And yes, keeping a gratitude journal does wonders for the soul! I began mine last night when I snuggled up in bed ... great ending to the day! Have a blessed week 'Mrs K'! xo
DeleteI'd never heard of a bullet journal before this, but I love this idea. 2 days into the new year isn't too late to start. LOL
ReplyDeleteIt's definitely not too late to start! I hope you do and you find it so helpful and enjoyable TaMara!

ReplyDeleteHi Nancy, I'm glad you like my journal! I'll pop by and have a look around! Blessings to you too.
DeleteThe organization made me tear up! Well done. I can see where the extra effort put forth up front can make this such a useful journal moving forward. Great ideas here. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you found it helpful Traci, thank you so much for visiting!
DeleteThis is a fabulous idea. It looks like you have your year all sorted and planned out. Best wishes for a wonderful 2016 :-)
ReplyDeleteHi Lyndall, I don't think it's all quite worked out yet! But, at least I won't forget anything ... hopefully! ;) Have a wonderful year!
DeleteGreat ideas. Your kitty is so pretty.
ReplyDeleteThank you Laura, nice to meet you!
DeleteThis is a really nice idea and I'd never heard of it before, although I do tend to jot of things in bullet form (not just TO-DO) items. Your kitten is adorable. We are getting our new puppy this weekend and I can't wait.
ReplyDeleteThanks Kathy, I hope you enjoy your lovely new puppy! Pets are such a delight!
DeleteYour journal looks beautiful! And your handwriting is gorgeous too, by the way! I would love to make a journal like that, but I'm pretty sure my girls would find it and destroy it within days, lol! Thank you for sharing :)
ReplyDeleteHi Kylie, thank you for your kind comments. Maybe if you hid your journal in a little secret nook you might have some success in keeping it all to yourself?!! Blessings to you.
DeleteI'm impressed with your drawing and handwriting skills! I don't draw well and my handwriting is often messy. I have not heard of a bullet journal, but from looking at yours, I don't think I would be able to keep one up for long. I'm not that organised.
ReplyDeleteHi Jess, I hope that I can keep mine up for longer than ... let's say, three weeks?!! Thanks for visiting again. I look forward to reading your blog this year and hope you have a very prosperous year ahead. Blessings to you friend.
DeleteGreat idea! I do a sentence-a-day journal and a Victory Log (of accomplishments) and a 3 Good Things list (easy way to do a gratitude journal). But I've never thought of including various types of lists in any of them. May start soon! Thanks.
ReplyDeleteA victory log ... now that sounds great Diane! There's just so many good ideas that people have, it's amazing! Thanks for your inspiration too and for visiting, it's nice meeting you.
DeleteI love this idea. You have beautiful handwriting.
ReplyDeleteThank you Chrissy. Blessings to you.
DeleteYour journaling is awesome. What a sweet kitty! Thanks for sharing at Home Sweet Home and Happy New Year!
ReplyDeleteThank you very much and yes, my kitty is pretty cute! Happy new year to you too!
DeleteI just saw one of these on another blog too and it makes so much sense to me! I am going to do this. I wish I had nice handwriting though. Visiting from Moms the Word.
ReplyDeleteCarolyn, I think that it's more important to start something that will bring you so much blessing than it is not to because you don't like your writing! Besides, your children and grand children will see it as an important and beautiful part of what makes you 'you'. Have fun starting yours and I hope you have a beautiful year!
DeleteThis is absolultely BRILLIANT. I adore Bullet Journals and discovered them last year. But I LOVE how you use images and washi tape! I am soooo doing that :)My bullet journal is a life saver on keeping my business organized and on task. That, and my Leonie Dawson Planner, are me secret weapons. Frnaticmommy.com
ReplyDeleteThanks, I hope you have enjoyed using images and washi tape in your bujo too! Hope you're having a great week!
