Endless ...

This homeschooling thing is hard.

Very hard.

I never thought it would be a walk in the park, that's for sure; but I still had no idea how hard it would be. I suppose that's how life works really; not having a full comprehension of a situation until you find yourself in the middle of it.

I WISH I HAD A MAGIC WAND.

This morning I woke to no milk at all and the DESPERATE need for a strong, strong hot coffee.

I find it amusing how the difficult days seem to be the ones that are always in slow motion. Fizzing out brain cells one repeat at time. For example, I've lost count of how many times I've repeated the instructions, "do your school work", "sit still", "listen to what I'm saying", "stop starring up at the spider in his web who's going about his day, when you're supposed to be DOING YOUR SCHOOLWORK!".

At least the spider's being productive.

I've entered the world of 'endless'.

Endless questions, endless cleaning, endless instructions, endless interruptions, endless noise, endless fights to settle, endless unfinished thoughts, endless errands, endless washing ... and then ...

... then, my thirteen year old son comes and wraps me in a long embrace. Exhale.

My eight year old daughter comes and happily announces, "You're the best mummy in the world!".

Even with all my mess and my stuff ups, that's how they see me. That's how my God sees me. Exhale.

NOTHING will ever be perfect,  but even in my world of 'endless' ... I'm perfectly blessed.

  2. I admire anyone who home schools. You must have oodles and oodles of patience :) I'm sure the kids appreciate how much hard work you put into it. #teamIBOT

  3. Beautifully said Elsha.
For what it's worth, I applaud you for trying. Homeschooling is not something I could ever do.

  4. Yes it is hard, especially when you're having a difficult time and then you think hey I have two teenagers almost finished but still have 2 in progress and a three year old coming up. I have found it helpful to think of home schooling as a journey rather than a task to be completed. Yes there are goals we need to meet but education is a collective accumulation of learning experiences.

    1. It sure is a journey rather than a sprint! Thank you so much for the encouraging reminder! You must be very 'skilled' at your homeschooling by now! Learning is for life, not just school years! Have a beautiful week! :)

  5. Gosh, isn't this the truth. You described my day to a T! Homeschooling is very challenging, but it's also very rewarding. God has called us to take on this roll and I am so thankful for the little moments that tell me I am blessed and doing a good job. I have learned to let my boys be busy while doing school work. I mean after all they are boys and boys don't sit still for anything, not even school work. I have one hanging upside down while reading and one staring off into space and then the other ones screams his math problems to drown out his other two brothers little noises they always make! My house sounds like a zoo all day long! But, I wouldn't really change a thing! I'll have to remember to Exhale when things get a little hairy!

Great post! And thank you for sharing it!

    Blessings, Amy

    1. Hi Amy, your comment made me laugh! I can just picture your little boy hanging upside down reading! I think we could probably combine our two zoo's to make one big zoo! I wouldn't change a thing either! Thanks for visiting and commenting, have a great week! :)

  6. Yes, it can be challenging! :) But rewarding like all good things! I have found to not give to much sit down work at one time. If I notice the wiggles coming on, I will usually assign a lap around the back yard or offer something to put in the hands while I read :) Happy homeschooling!

    1. I've done the lap around the house a few times already, that's for sure! I'll try something in wiggly hands too, thanks for the tip! Happy homeschooling to you too! :)
